Parallax
This series of surreal paintings is titled Parallax.
Parallax is the apparent displacement of an object when viewed from different angles. It is this principle that allows us to have depth perception and allows astronomers to calculate the distances of faraway objects. In this series, I juxtapose images of the earth and outer space, painting simple, surreal scenes that show two vastly different angles of the universe. Just as parallax lets us grasp perspective, these two different angles, when taken together, give us a clearer overall picture of the universe we live in. Too many people look only inward: they focus on their immediate surroundings, the landscape at their doorstep, and insignificant details of their everyday existence. By failing to contextualize our lives and acknowledge our place in the universe, we lose out on a broader perspective. I hope that my paintings remind people to consider the beauty and wonder of the natural world and the tiny place we occupy within it. More paintings in this series are in progress at the moment. Some original paintings and prints of paintings in this series are for sale. |
